Pipe Marking

On any given day, millions of gallons of hazardous materials flow through pipes in factories, commercial/industrial plants, on ships, and oil rigs all over the globe. These pipes, just like other hazardous material containers, should have the appropriate labeling to warn individuals within close proximity of any imminent danger, as to the direction of flow and the type of material that is flowing through them.

ANSI/ASME (American Society of Testing and Materials) A13.1 Scheme for Identification of Piping Systems addresses pipe marking in detail. It offers a common labeling system that is used in all industries. The easy-to-use color coding makes identifying pipelines during possible dangerous situations straightforward and uncomplicated. With exception: ANSI pipe marking standards do not apply to buried pipelines or electrical conduit. For a comprehensive look at ANSI standards and requirements, please visit www.ansi.org/
